HISTORY OF ARAB DHOW SULTAN: KNOW THE MODEL YOU WILL BUILD
Discover Sultan, a wooden model of this traditional Arabian dhow from the coasts of the Arabian Peninsula, India and East Africa. This ship was the primary instrument in the commerce and in the propagation of the Islamic faith. Also, the dhow was mainly used as cargo ship, from grain and fish to slaves or minerals.

The exact origin of the dhow is unknown, although its appearance seems to be linked to Islam. Revolutionary in naval history for its triangular sails and practically unchanged since its initial designs, it is believed that the dhow was the germ for the construction of Venetian galleys and caravels, favoring the creation of larger ships with mixed sails. The dhows are still sailing along the shores of the Indian Ocean.

Essential complements for the HMS Erebus model ship:

Erebus and Terror of Franklin's lost expedition

The HMS Erebus and HMS Terror were two ships that were part of Sir John Franklin's Lost Expedition to the Arctic in 1845. Both ships were technologically advanced for their time and were equipped with steam engines to navigate the Arctic waters. The expedition sought to find the Northwest Passage but became trapped in the ice and never returned. After several years without news of the ships, a search was initiated that led to their discovery in 2014 and 2016. Although remains of the expedition were found, the exact cause of its failure was never determined, leading to many theories and speculations. The Erebus and Terror are remembered as symbols of Arctic exploration and the bravery of the explorers who ventured into an unknown and dangerous territory.
