Description

In the 1930s, what was then Nordhausen-Wernigerode Eisenbahn AG (NWE) intended to modernize its locomotive fleet. In addition to new steam locomotives, diesel-electric railcars were also to be procured. After the first railcar was bought in 1935, the Waggonfabrik Wismar delivered two more powerful railcars in 1940, which were designed purely as baggage railcars. With a service weight of 32 tons, an output of 516 hp and a top speed of 60 km/h, the two baggage railcars were slightly more powerful than the passenger railcar and could therefore transport 4 instead of 3 cars. In 1949, the Deutsche Reichsbahn took over both railcars as VT 137 565 and VT 137 566. Until the delivery of the new steam locomotives at the end of the 1950s, both railcars carried the main load of the Brocken traffic together with the heavy steam locomotives of the former NWE.

After that, the railcars were relegated to subordinate services. VT 137 565 was retired in 1967 and scrapped in Wittenberge in 1968. VT 137 566 received the new number 187 025 in 1970 and was shut down in the course of the 1970s. The HSB took over the railcar in 1993. It was refurbished in 1995 and has since been available again in its original condition as the NWE T3 for special trips. In this rebuild, the original engine was replaced with a new 328hp Cummins engine. Since the railcar was only used in special traffic and no longer as a towing vehicle, this performance is completely sufficient, spare parts are always available for the modern engine. The railcar is currently on hold from repairs and is scheduled for refurbishment.

Model of the T3 diesel railcar as it is still used by the HSB today. The red paint scheme and lettering are true to the original for Era VI. Four wheelsets driven by two powerful Bühler motors with ball bearings. As a result, the very powerful railcar is able - just like its large prototype - to pull several cars. Equipped with an mfx/DCC decoder with many light and sound functions. Interior lighting and driver's cab lighting can be switched in digital operation.
